Most of the sculptures are carved from Western Red Cedar and Yew wood salvaged in the Gold River area. If you are visiting Gold River, make sure to stop at the North Island Clayworks Cafe and Gallery. You can enjoy a good meal and browse through their unique art gallery where they show some of the carvings among other items. They are located where the highway crosses the Gold River. A must see for local art.
Gold River is located between the Gold and Heber Rivers on West Vancouver Island, the gateway to historic Nootka Sound on Canada’s pacific coast, this is where the road ends. Easy ocean access to the world’s best salmon and halibut fishing.
